What's normal + podcast recommendation

Hello Reader,

Recently I was chatting with a friend. As it often does in my world, our conversation turned to nutrition and health. She mentioned that her husband has been living with stomach discomfort, food sensitivities, and sinus issues his entire life. (He’s currently in his 50’s)

While she is very much into holistic medicine, he’s content with simply treating his symptoms using a variety of antacids and allergy medicines. He’s learnt to live with these issues and they aren’t a big deal to him.

My natural instinct was to jump in with advice and holistic remedies, but I resisted the temptation. He wasn’t interested in digging deeper into root causes and making changes to his diet.

The reality is, this is his “normal”. It reminded me that what is considered “normal” is different for everyone, and change only comes when there’s a favorable risk-reward balance.

It also made me wonder: What is his body trying to tell him? Are these symptoms warning signs of a deeper health challenge brewing under the surface?

If you’ve been living with annoying symptoms for years, consider what your body might be trying to tell you. Be curious.

Listening to your body now might save you from bigger struggles in the future.

Sending you love & light,

Dora

Hello Reader, One of the first things I noticed before my official diagnosis of Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis was hair loss. Even with thyroid labs that my doctor said were “normal”, I knew something was wrong when I was pulling out wads of hair while in the shower. So I went down a rabbit hole and eventually figured out what was wrong and what I could do about it. I’m happy to report that I’m no longer shedding an abnormal amount of hair. So I thought I’d share some of what I learned about natural...

Hello Reader, Eggplant season is in full swing where I live, and I am HERE for it! 🍆 Roasted eggplant, caponata, baingan bharta… I’ve been eating it all. (recipe below 👇🏼) But this embarrassment of eggplants got me thinking: is there a dark side to this humble purple vegetable? Because eggplants belong to the nightshade family - and nightshades have a bit of a reputation. So what’s the deal? Nightshades include some of the most common foods on the planet: tomatoes, peppers, white potatoes,...

Hello Reader, Apologies! I missed sending out the (seemingly) obligatory Thanksgiving and Black Friday message last week. Honestly, over the past two weeks, I’ve received so many emails from companies shouting about their “best prices of the year” that I just couldn’t bring myself to add my own to the pile and clutter up your inbox. Today, at the risk of getting lost in the aftermath of Cyber Monday, I still want to express my (belated but sincere) gratitude to you for being part of my...
